A 2014 high-school essay question, World History. Garron will be a sophomore. It'll have to be advanced placement, because I can't write it. And I quit high school a long time ago. Maybe Garron will be able to.
Explain the rationale for the 2003 United States' invasion of Iraq. Outline the primary motivators, taking into account the 9/11 terrorist attacks, former U.S. support for Saddam Hussein, and the negative findings by weapons inspectors from both the United Nations and the United States.
- Why did the Coalition still invade in spite of the repeated inspection findings and absence of U.N. support?
- Why did the invasion happen in spite of the protests of many military commanders?
- Why did the U.S. fail to predict the protracted result given the history and cultural complexity of Iraq and surrounding regions?
- Why was conservative support for the war widespread, in spite of traditional conservatism's objection to nation building? Explain neoconservatism.
Summarize in the context of the current continued U.S. occupation of Iraq, and civil unrest across the Middle East, Europe, and northern Asia.
